Reframing the Discussion of Global Warming and Climate Impacts

In an op-ed piece that appeared in the March 28th Sunday edition of The Seattle Times, I argued that climate change has been receiving undue emphasis in discussions of environmental policy and that this has created a stalemate in which opponents of environmental regulation of any kind are able to effectively block legislative initiatives simply by continuing to cast doubt on the scientific consensus regarding global warming. In the seminar I will expand upon the arguments in the op ed piece and offer a few ideas concerning how environmental issues might be reframed so as to promote a more balanced and fruitful discussion.
