City of Seattle Climate Adaptation Strategy Development

Summary
The Climate Impacts Group is assisting the City of Seattle's efforts to develop a comprehensive Climate Change Adaptation Strategy for increasing the city's resiliency to climate change impacts.
CIG's work is focused on helping the City develop planning goals, guiding principles, and frameworks that will help guide current and future planning activities and build internal capacity for adaptation planning.
Specific tasks include:
- Working with the Office of Sustainability and an interdepartment adaptation plannign team to define goals and principles which will guide the adaptation planning process;
- Developing a planning framework that will serve as a guide for adaptation planning for infrastructure, natural systems, regulations, strategic plans, public health, human services, and emergency preparedness;
- Developing a method for assessing how impacts of climate change could affect implementation of existing and future strategic and functional plans; and
- Develop a method for reviewing regulations and apply the method to selected city regulations.
