Monthly-mean WRF Data

In July 2007, the Climate Impacts Group (CIG) launched an assessment of climate change impacts on Washington State. The assessment, funded by the Washington State Legislature through House Bill 1303, involved developing updated climate change scenarios for Washington State. Scenarios were developed based on 19 global climate model simulations prepared by climate modeling centers worldwide for the Fourth IPCC Assessement.

Two models, ECHAM5 and CCSM3 were dynamically downscaled using the WRF regional climate model as described in the Regional Climate Modeling Chapter of the Washington Climate Change Impacts Assessment.

Data files

Files are ArcGIS ascii format containing 2-m air temperature or accumulated precipitation for the continental U.S. averaged over the indicated years for the calendar month.

ECHAM5-WRF data cover the continental US and are on a 186 x 123 36-km grid with a Lambert Conformal projection. The lower-left hand corner of the data array is at 15.65616 N, 128.4317 W. The standard parallels for the projection are 33 and 45N; the reference longitude is 97W.

CCSM3-WRF data cover the western US and are on a 179 x 179 20-km grid with a Lambert Conformal projection. The lower-left hand corner of the data array is at 22.29078 N, 130.7264 W. The standard parallels for the projection are 30 and 60N; the reference longitude is 114 W.

Temperature is in units of Kelvin. Precipitation units are monthly accumulation in mm.
