Publication Abstract

"Linking Sustainability Science to Policy Decisions: New Departures"

Miles, E. L. 2003. "Linking Sustainability Science to Policy Decisions: New Departures". Evans Lecture presented April 29, 2003 at the Burke Museum, University of Washington, Seattle.

Abstract

Addressing the complexity of today's environmental challenges requires a philosophical shift in traditional university-based research programs to emphasize sustainability science and the value of interdisciplinary research designed to help decision-makers manage environmental crises. The Climate Impact Group's approach to integrated science and its efforts to provide decision-support tools to regional resource managers are highlighted as an example of this type of research.
